About Us
Ashley Cimarolli and Sophia Perez met at the University of Iowa while attending classes in the Cinematic Arts and Screenwriting departments. They quickly became friends, then creative partners as they bonded over a mutual passion for storytelling and love of offbeat projects.
In 2023, they founded Wise Dweller Productions with a mission to prioritize women by creating female-forward stories for all. Simply put, they write the characters they want to be and make the movies they want to see. Behind the camera, Cimarolli and Perez make an effort to create opportunities for women to gain experience in technical and creative roles.
Ashley Cimarolli is a filmmaker from St. Louis, Missouri, and a recent graduate from the University of Iowa. She has been making films since her first year at Iowa, writing and directing 14+ short films and two feature films. She learned how to use film equipment at Student Video Productions and worked there for two years, teaching others her passion for filmmaking. She is drawn to unconventional stories built around imperfect and quirky characters as they navigate the chaos of life and identity.
Sophia Perez is a filmmaker born and raised in the Midwest. Sophia holds a B.A. in Screenwriting from the University of Iowa, where she learned the art of filmmaking. During her time at Iowa, she was involved in the production of short films, a feature film, and the publication of a translation-based literary magazine. Sophia has a background in theatre and stand-up comedy, which informs her screenplays. In her writing and films, she makes light of the dark, or the light a bit darker.
